Review - Ruby Rabbit *UPDATED*

The pairing of executive chef Mark Proudfoot and 'scene queen' Renee Schembri is a match made in heaven. He earned his crust as a pastry chef at Bennelong, and she knows how to turn glitter into gold after running the renowned lesbian party, Bitch, for six years. Walking into the Alice in Wonderland inspired nightclub, hopes were set high for their eatery.

Proudfoot makes his own preserves and steers us towards his latest creation, the Encrusted Garlic and Green Tea Lamb Cutlets ($28). They come with his beetroot relish and smooth truffle mash.

My partner’s cocktail, an Absolute Rabbit ($18) is a like an adult’s raspberry snow cone, rivaling the mood lighting.

The Corn Fed Chicken Salad ($18) with citrus dressing and strawberries is, likewise, fittingly fruity and fun. Upstairs soon fills up with Friday night knock-offs arriving for ‘staffies’ - an hour of free drinks for those suffering office drink cutbacks.

I kick-start the weekend with an Espresso Martini ($18) and Sweet Potato Fries ($4), that are severely under-priced for their size.

Irish-born Proudfood encourages diners to “go upstairs for a boogie”, but after these bad boys, I lazily sip on Something Sweet ($18) - a chocolate-y, Tia Maria drink that loves you back like a dessert.
