We started fairly simply with a Mixed Entree Plate for one ($11.50) which had a few stand outs, namely the Kashmiri Pakoras ($6.90/ 4 pieces) and Samosas ($6.50/ 2 pieces) - both suit vegetarian diets. I wouldn't write home about the Tandoori Lamb Cutlets though. And the jury is still out on the relative merits of the rather intense yellow sauce on the garnish which involved very hot English mustard.
Another entree we tried was the Green Mint Octopus ($8.50/3 pieces) and it was quite nice, marinated with mint, coriander, yoghurt and green chillies, and the cooked in the Tandoor.
I love Indian breads, so we tried two types. The Garlic Naan ($3.00) was the better of the two.
The Cheese Naan ($3.50) was a bit oily for my taste, as you can see from the photo.
My dining companion is a great fan of condiments, so we did a Combination of Four ($9.00) - Banana Coconut, Raita, Mango Chutney and Tomato/Onion/Cucumber (again covered with the strange yellow sauce).
In the curry department, I went with a Paneer Tikka Masala ($13.90) which had a flavoursome and almost sweet sauce.
My dining companion likes it hot, so he went with a Beef Vindaloo ($13.90) which packed a punch, but wasn't unbearable.
Serving sizes are reasonable. There’s a cocktail list (all $9.50), and a small, fairly standard wine list, but with corkage at a realistic $3 per bottle, there’s no reason to feel limited – travel about three doors north on Oxford Street for a great bottle shop.
