Does My Bomb Look Big In This?

Review - Mocean

After beginning the arduous task of eating my way through Sydney's restaurants, I pause for breath to speak to the vegetarians amongst you.

This platter (which was undersold severely on the menu as Tasting Plate $18) was a vegetarian's wet dream.



In terms of scale, it was huge... and included only one deep fried element - a Zucchini Flower stuffed with Ricotta, Mint and Peas. There was also several types of mushroom, a piece of eggplant lasagna, oven roasted tomatoes with pesto and bocconcini, fennel & celery salad, lovely Pecorino, Crustini, Salad, Saffron Potatoes, Kipfler potatoes, fire roasted capsicum and sliced pear; plus there were probably some things that I can't remember. The produce was fresh - Fratelli Fresh in fact. Better yet, it was all very tasty. They also have a Vegetable Linguine ($20) on the menu which they say also sounds blah in the description, but is impressive in person.

My favourite dish was actually Grilled Scallops with Fennel & Celery Salad, Cauliflower Puree,  Candied Lemon Peel & Red Wine Jus  ($16). It sounds overdone, but was actually a winter's delight. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the combination of the creamy cauliflower puree, scallop and candied lemon peel was a taste explosion.



There is a lovely underground cocktail bar with a $16 list underground, complete with flocked wallpaper, and the meatier selections made us happy too. Oh and a million dollar (quite literally) view, as it is up on the hill toward the southern end of Bondi Beach.
