Does My Bomb Look Big In This?

Review - La Grande Bouffe

From a mighty fine amuse bouche of two garlic snails, best consumed with crusty Warm Baguettes ($4.50), to the final quartet of...

...nicely ripened imported Assiette de Fromage ($19), the kitchen here didn’t miss a beat.

The Wild Hare Rillettes ($18) let the bunny do the talking, against an embedded prune, cornichon slivers and toast.

The Bacon Wrapped Scallops ($18) countered the intensity of the foie gras jus with a vividly green pea puree that was wickedly fine…

...and don’t get me started about the lovely layers in the potato Dauphinoise with the Poached Fillet of Beef ($32)! Okay, I admit I spent upwards of five minutes lifting them off one by one and letting them dissolve on my tongue in my own version of Communion. It’s definitely a sinful pleasure eating here - the food is decadently rich.

So do order a bowl of Peas with Braised Onions ($8.50).

They provide much needed relief against the aforementioned beef, and the bold porky pleasure of the Kurobuta Pork Chop with Potato Rosti and Calvados Jus ($32).

The wine list provokes joy in the Francophile (even if the staff sometimes do not) – our 2007 Vire Clesse Chason Chardonnay ($60) from Burgundy was a fine tipple.
