Does My Bomb Look Big In This?

Review - Xanthi Restaurant & Bar (The Chefs Club)

Taking up from where cheap night at the movies left off, Tuesday now means The Chefs Club for Westfield Sydney.

Most of the Level Six restaurants have tempting menu boards, but I only have eyes for Xanthi. I’m blaming you. You see whenever I’ve been asked for a restaurant recommendation; I’ve asked for your favourite too. Too often to ignore, it's been Perama, David Tsirekas’ former digs.

So I'm here to scope out second gen. Greek. It’s served with city flare, in one of the centre’s better interiors - a pleasingly intimate womb with precious little Westfield view.

A measly thirty bucks buys you a banquet of menu hits – though the Pork Belly Baklava ($21) is a must-do whatever the night! It’s Greek food turned on its head – a rich date mastic sauce dotted with pork crackling, hiding well-cooked pistachio and date stuffed pig.

Lamb Skaras ($31) on the other hand, looks comfortingly familiar. Yep, it's meat’n’two-veg with textbook lemon ‘taties and green beans.

The lamb is so darn tender, I barely need to chew - perfect against barrel-aged feta crowning a crisp Greek Salad ($13).

Add a plate-scrapingly good slice of Caramel Baklava Ice Cream ($15); well-explained Greek wines, and suavely confident Greek waiters, and I’m forever in your debt.
