Summer is a time for enjoying... so I left my camera at home for a relaxing meal at Manta Restaurant and Bar... well actually, some snacks that morphed into a meal. It was so good I pulled out my iPhone and toyed with Instagram, so I guess it's more a photo-diary of my evening than a review as such.
I doubt there is a better way to begin a set of sunset cocktails than with Spanish jamon and Australian oysters. Here you can see a Pineapple Sorbet Mojito ($16) and a seasonal cocktail involving ginger whose name escapes me! There's also a Dozen Oysters ($49) and a plate of Joselito Iberico Jamon De Bellota ($29)
This is a Sharing Plate ($32) of tasty bar snacks, including Fried Clarence River Calamari, Pumpkin, Pine Nut and Goats Cheese Arancini and locally produced Smoked Salmon with Pickled Fennel. All these dishes are also available separately.
The chef, Daniel Hughes, kindly sent out a tasting portion of the Seared Atlantic Scallops with Pancetta, Asparagus, Pencil Leeks, King Brown Mushrooms and Sweet Corn (normally $28) - a really wonderful combination - unusual, and highly enjoyable. On the other half of the plate you see a tasting portion of scampi.
It was nice to be reminded of what a magnificent place this is to watch the sun sink behind the city, and enjoy the bounty of fresh seafood that this country is blessed with.
