Review - The Treehouse

Alex Harmon continues exploring bars, with this one north of the bridge...

Their Alice in Wonderland-themed first birthday made dining here especially playful - though I suspect it's like that all of the time.

The waiters are convivial, and the décor is vintage, colourful and slightly off-kilter. Similarly, food is classic but presented in a pretty, tea party like manner.

The Duck Liver Pate ($18) is served daintily with quince jam and cornichons - AKA gherkins. (See what I mean?) The cocktail list screams of North Shore 9-5-ers who desperately want to be ladies who lunch: see the Brad Pit-cher ($33), a “handsome mix” of liqueurs, rose wine and elderflower.

I order a Scarlet Daiquiri ($17) with rhubarb, rum, pomegranate and maraschino liqueur because I’m more a scorned worker from the dark side of the bridge.

The Spinach & Ricotta Gnocchi ($31) with prawns is worth trying for the bouncy gnocchi. “The best I’ve ever had,” scream the ladies beside us.

For me the standout is the Pork Cutlet ($29). It’s as big as a handbag and comes with deceptive caramelized apples (they look like potatoes) and dazzling crackling.

The Warm Chocolate Pudding ($13) with its avalanche of molten chocolate wraps up the meal perfectly – it’s probably the Brad Pitcher speaking, but dare I say, the tree of life.

There last week. Decor is very Keystone Group. I had the poached chicken salad. Nice. But Nice is not really what we're after, is it. Wish I'd had the pork! xChelle

I reckon there's a Tuesday night place for nice food and a few drinks, one can't eat duck & foie gras every night. ;-)
