If you'd have asked me 24 hours ago how I felt about oysters, I would have probably made a comment about them being glorified sea boogers, but a preview evening at The Morrison's Oyster Festival forced me out of my ignorant shell and made me see these flawless little pearlers in a new light.
It probably helped that my first oyster came perched atop a cocktail – a Malted Mollusc Cocktail ($20) to be exact. It’s a smoky, spicy whisky balanced with fresh lemon juice, tempered with honey and garnished with a salty oyster.
While my date and I sipped our drinks and slurped our oysters, we were educated on the best ways to shuck oysters, and given the chance to taste oysters from Merimbula, Lemon Tree Passage and Coffin Bay. The Morrison's Oyster Festival will run from 1st - 31st August 2015 and features their famous $1 oyster happy hour, oyster and whisky masterclasses and more.
