This rather sad photo shows the carnage at the 2007 Sydney Specialist Cheese Show at the Milawa Cheese Company stall. So many people came this year in a calcium-feeding frenzy that left little on the cheese boards! My two favourites came from the Milawa Cheese Company (Victoria) and Heidi Farm (Tasmania).
The above picture shows the Milawa Goat's Camembert (which I absolutely loved). It's a white mould Camembert, made from goat's milk. It's an award winning bite, with three medals: Runner Up Grand Dairy Awards 2002, Sydney Royal Easter Show Silver 2002, ASCA 2004 Gold Medal.
The other winning cheese came from Heidi Farm in Tasmania, who specialise in producing European style cheeses. The exciting part of this cheese at the show was that they were serving it hot, straight from a device that heated the whole round inside its rind. Now this makes sense because it is a cheese for grilling. In fact I just found a whole industry in Australia for Raclette Grills - move over fondue, this is the latest in interactive tabletop entertaining!
Heidi Raclette was the GRAND CHAMPION cheese at the 2005 Grand Dairy Awards - in fact it's won more awards than I could be bothered to list here. They also make a Gruyere and a Tilsit, which are both delightful. You can purchase Heidi Cheeses from a number of outlets listed on their website, including Norton St Grocery.
