With some time to burn between engagements on my recent trip to our nation's capital, I spent some time looking at art at the Canberra Museum and Gallery. With my breakfast coffee from Teddy Picker's not quite hitting the spot, it wasn't long before the urge for art gave way to a distinct craving for caffeine. Wandering aimlessly around Civic, I stumbled upon Sip Coffee Bar.
It's a petite but attractive space with limited seating in a window-facing bar, and a wooden nook centred around a corner banquette. The coffee bar's centrepiece is an aquamarine La Marzocco coffee machine. These high-end Italian coffee machines date back to the 1920s. They're using San Pedro Coffee in it, which is 100% Arabica beans roasted in Australia's coffee capital of Melbourne.
I gave it a whirl in their Iced Coffee ($6), which proved robust and interesting with a decent punch even amongst all that milk. A Matcha Frappe ($6) also drank well, with just the right amount of green tea balanced by sugar. While we'd already had breakfast, the cafe's short blackboard menu of toasties and jaffles proved popular with their steady stream of takeaway customers on the way to work.
